Why Outcross using APBO or NABO

As the Bulldog was nearing extinction with bullbaiting now outlawed (1835) the true Bulldog fanciers began to  change the breed from ferocious fighter to a companion and in 1 short year the breed underwent a transformation a more attractive and mellow dog emerged. The Boxer once referred to as the Bullenbeisser (bull biter) found the same future in about 1865 and shortly thereafter emerged as a sleeker and more mellow dog that has served in many capacities.

Breeders today see the need to return their breed to the robust specimen it once was or they recognize the fact that their breed has become coarse and needs refinement. Today there can be many reasons a breed may need the infusion of a breed ancestor or perhaps another non ancestral breed to revive what that breed once was. Adding ABPO or NABO is something we must take very seriously a fine line exists as far as type and temperament, while broader ranges envelope size and  color.
