NEWLY RECOGNIZED  BREED
The Cane da Presa,  translated “Southern Catching Dog”
Before 1946 there was no distinction between Neapolitan Mastiff, Cane da Presa and Cane Corso, these were just
three different names for the same dog depending on the province in Italy. The present day Neapolitan Mastiff is an
exaggerated variation of the original. Today there are breeders who are actively breeding dogs which would fit the 1946
standard of the Neapolitan Mastiff/Cane Corso/Cane da Presa.
Today the American Dog Federation now recognizes the
Cane Da Presa as a separate breed

Pictures and information provided by Mr. Mike Antonio Sottile
The Sottile Family has bred the
Cane Da Presa for over 54 years

GUAGLIONE 'di Villanova' the patriarch of the dogs breeding by
Piero Scanziani ( Neapolitan Mastiff ) ... 'was a Cane Corso of the
heaviest type, very dry and with slight dewlap' ... As Mr. Casolino
wrote in a letter in 1990 to Mr. Morsiani.

From 1946, the real Neapolitan Mastiff/ Cane Corso / Cane da
Presa remain unchanged in the farms, especially in Puglia and
Sicily, where it was discovered (again !! ) by another Italian
cynologist, Paolo Breber, in the '70s, on the recommendation of an
eminent zoologist, Prof.. Bonatti.

Even now, the dogs are unchanged in the farms and in some
kennels ... so it is required a real italian cynologist to discovered
again the real Neapolitan Mastiff / the real Cane Corso ("can'è
corz") !! Our dogs is like Mr. Casolino described in that letter to
Mr. Morsiani ; watch and defense dog !!!
